You might have heard of a plant called Cannabis aka Marijuana. Thinking of this seductive plant can induce very different things for different people. What does it mean to you?
- Watching sci-fi movies red-eyed on the couch?
- Filling your already bloated stomach with Cheetos?
- Getting the ‘mutes’, (a condition of being unable to speak in a social situation) at your Mums’ 60th birthday?
- Forgetting how to pay for things at the supermarket?

- Laugh in inappropriate situations
- Think that the movie ‘Jingle All the Way’ is a masterpiece
- Forget your partner’s name at your wedding.
- Eat enormous amounts of food.
- Get paranoid in social situations
CBD oil, in general, does not contain any significant amounts of THC. Inactive CBD oil contains marginal amounts, usually less than 0.3%. Trying to get stoned from this is like trying to get drunk off Kombucha or, Shandy (for any Brits out there).

CBD v THC
To get another example of the differences between THC and CBD we turn to the leaf. The two most common strains of cannabis are Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. Sativa strains have a higher content of THC so they are ‘headier’. The effects range from creativity and giggling to euphoric spiritual-type experiences. Indica strains are higher in CBD. They give you a ‘body high’ and make you feel very relaxed. Many strains these days are a hybrid of the two. Sensi Seeds says:
Indica strains have a different range of effects on the body and mind than Sativa strains. Both have different medicinal benefits. An Indica strain is generally associated with a sense of deep body relaxation. Sativa strains tend to provide a more energizing experience.
However according to Leafly.com:
Data collected by cannabis researchers suggests these categories aren’t as prescriptive as one might hope—in other words, there’s little evidence to suggest that indicas and sativas exhibit a consistent pattern of chemical profiles that would make one inherently sedating and the other uplifting.
So is the difference between Indica and Sativa purely indicative? Who is right? What we do know is that THC is generally associated with the ‘high’ or head effects whilst CBD is associated with the relaxation or the body effects. Watch this video to learn more.
So why does CBD make you feel chilled?

CBD oil is thought to reduce inflammation within the body and is also known as a muscle relaxant. When the tension is released, it allows the oxygen and blood to resume its normal flow. This is the same reason that exercise can reduce the symptoms of anxiety. When the heart rate goes up, the heart pumps oxygen and blood to the muscles of the body and the brain. The pressure forces the channels to become unblocked and they become slippery. The oxygen and blood flow more and everything feels good. I would like to stress that I do not think that this anxiety is necessarily about a lack of oxygen in the body, but often a transportation issue, where the oxygen cannot get to the brain for various reasons. Some people compare the effect of CBD oil to ‘the runners high’. There are a lot more complex explanations around as to the ins and outs behind this. According to Livescience:
Every variety of the cannabis family produces cannabinoids, including hemp. While CBD and THC are the most well-known cannabinoids, there are many different types, and only recently have significant resources been poured into their study. Our brains have specific receptors designed to accept cannabinoids, known as CB1 and CB2. These receptors are responsible for the assimilation of cannabinoid molecules into your system, resulting in the psychoactive and immune responses correlated with cannabis consumption.
So no CBD oils contain THC?
Standard CBD oil can contain THC, in trace amounts of up to 0.3%. There are also CBD oils available with higher doses of THC. Whilst CBD is a cannabinol, so is THC, but it’s a little different and a little stronger. THC also helps in managing pain and inflammation. THC is also used as a pain killer and an appetite stimulant. Whatever your needs, it is important to find a CBD that is pure and clean. Try to buy from a reputable dealer and check the THC levels.

Is CBD available in any other form?
CBD is available in a huge number of forms apart from standard oil droplets. Generally speaking, besides the oil, popular forms are gummies, capsules, vaping capsules, balms, creams, roll-ons. You name it and it is probably getting done. I saw an article about CBD leggings just the other day!
