What is an erection?
- An erection is also known as a boner, stiffy, hardon, woody, full-salute and pocket rocket.
- When one is younger, erections can be uncontrollable, as one gets older, they become unworkable.
- Blood enters the ‘phallus Maximus’ at an alarming rate creating the ‘stone banana’ effect
What is ‘erectile dysfunction’?
Who can deny that one of the biggest ‘downers’ for a man’s self-esteem is the dreaded limp biscuit? What begins with a once-off Floppy Norris can quickly become a self-fulfilling prophecy of disastrous proportions.
- Erectile dysfunction is considered to come from a mix of psychological and physical causes
- The fear of erectile dysfunction can cruelly become a cause for the dysfunction itself
- Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an indicator of heart issues in the body
- CBD oil for erections is a relatively new field of study.
- CBD is considered an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant than may help with both the psychological and physical symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
OK, so that list said ‘erectile dysfunction’ a few too many times. Talk about hammering home the message…
Enter Viagra. The little blue diamond that took the world by storm.
The discovery that sildenafil could lead to an erection was an unplanned event. The sildenafil compound was originally developed by Pfizer for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain due to heart disease). During the heart clinical trials, researchers discovered that the drug was more effective at inducing erections than treating angina. Pfizer realized ED was an unmet medical need and a major opportunity for financial gain. In 1998, the FDA approved Viagra, the first oral treatment for erectile dysfunction, under a priority review.
Imagine a 65-year-old man who hasn’t got it up in years on the phone from that angina experiment to his wife-
‘Darling, I’ll be home in half an hour. Put your small underwear on and open the 1984 Chateaux Mouton. We are having sex‘
I have used Viagra. Quite a long time ago I might add. Whilst my erectile needs were more than met, I found the side-effects far too much for me to continue. They included –
- Intense headaches
- a general feeling of unpleasant sensitivity all over
- a severely blocked nose
and worst of all:
‘Japanese monkey syndrome.’
This is where your face goes extremely red, sometimes to embarrassing levels like those Japanese snow monkeys. Often this isn’t discovered until the post-sex bathroom call. This condition is also known as ‘Hellboy syndrome’.
At the time of its approval, Viagra had the fastest initial sales growth following its launch of any prescription product, reaching 2008 sales of close to $2 billion.
Later came drugs like Cialis, but Viagra still seems to be the world leader in erectile dysfunction drugs.
So how does Viagra work?
Viagra works in response to sexual stimulation to increase the blood flow to the penis leading to an erection. Viagra does not result in an erection without sexual stimulation.
It is good to know that Viagra works by increasing blood flow. Since it began as a blood pressure medication, you can understand why it affects opening the blood vessels.
But what does this have to do with CBD oil?
If you have been keeping up with many of my articles, I talk a lot about how CBD oil is known as an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant. One of the results of muscle relaxation and a reduction in inflammation is that the channels that carry blood and oxygen around the body – to the heart, brain and yes, to the penis; cock; knob; one-eyed willy; Bone Ranger…well, you get the point. From Healthline:
When it comes to issues of lubrication during sex, Alex Capano, medical director for Ananda Hemp and faculty member at the Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University, explains that CBD may help.
“There are so many cannabinoid receptors in reproductive organs and sexual tissue. CBD increases blood flow to tissues, which increases sensitivity and promotes the body’s own natural lubrications,” says Capano.
OK, so he might not state unequivocally that CBD is the herbal equivalent of Viagra, but he does say that CBD increases blood flow to tissues. Surely that also means the penis right? Doesn’t the penis have tissues?
No, not those kinds of tissues.
Performance anxiety may be a factor for men whose ED has a psychological origin. Susan A. Stoner’s 2017 scientific review for the University of Washington discussed how cannabis in small amounts lowered anxiety. Stoner, a licensed clinical psychologist who is a research consultant for the University of Washington’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, noted that higher amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) had the opposite effect and increased anxiety, while CBD provided more consistency. This is a prime example of successfully using CBD-rich cannabis oil as opposed to THC-rich cannabis oil.
Ah, thanks, Susan Stoner.
So from a psychological perspective (That dreaded self-fulfilling prophecy), CBD may reduce anxiety.
In other words, it helps you relax so you don’t stress about getting a stiffy and hence end up not getting a stiffy. Know what I mean?
Happily married for four years, Goldberg suddenly began having trouble achieving an erection. He was wary of prescription medications and decided to try CBD oil instead, having heard rave reviews about it from a friend. Goldberg told Weedmaps: “Just a few drops is all it takes for me to feel relaxed and for the cares of the day to fade away. My wife also uses the CBD and it definitely makes sex more enjoyable for her.”
Goldberg sounds like a character in a novel. Some middle-aged Jewish Lawyer who collects hats.
But what about the physical?
One of the things I find amazing is how there are so many stories of CBD helping people with erectile problems, yet in the way they are reported, they all put it down to a reduction in anxiety.
Sure, CBD can whip anxiety into submission and, yes, anxiety does seem to be an overwhelming cause of erectile dysfunction in many men. But, I suppose it is the raw market and the unwillingness to talk medicine that leaves no one talking about CBD’s ability to open the channels of the body allowing for better blood and oxygen flow.
When it’s up, it’s up
In the end, everybody is talking about the ability of CBD oil to enhance the sexual experience. Many, indeed, are talking about it as an antidote to the dreaded ‘snake in a coma’. Some are putting this down to CBD oil as an antidote to anxiety, but is there also another aspect such as CBD’s supposed ability to affect blood and oxygen flow to tissues?
If so, surely the effects are both psychological and physical. Is it as effective as Viagra? I doubt it. The Valyrian steel hard-ons of my Viagra days, in hindsight, seemed unnatural. Sometimes my penis felt like a stone it was so hard. Sorry to be so explicit. But the over the top nature of it was reinforced by Japanese Monkey Syndrome, that horrendous blocked nose and other side effects that communicated very simply, ‘This is not right’.
CBD oil does not have those kinds of symptoms. So, whilst it might not be as over the top as Viagra and it’s cousins, it might just be a natural alternative for erectile dysfunction and other sexual issues with an endless list of bonus positive side-effects.
