cbd oil doggoAs the popularity of CBD oil grows like bitcoin, many dog owners are getting turned on to it as an alternative therapy for their dogs.

There are mixed voices out there on whether CBD oil and dogs go together. I feel like a lot of it might come from people bringing along the weed stigma. Anyway, HuffPost spoke to Mark Verdino, MD, senior vice president and chief of veterinary staff at North Shore Animal League America about it and this is what he had to say:

“The psychotic ingredient in it that makes people high is not present at CBD oil, and they’re not entirely sure how the CBD, the Cannabidiol, actually works to do the things that they’re claiming that it does,We don’t know, but they seem to be less reactive to low level pain stimuli, so like arthritis and things like that, when they take the product. And certain anxieties, they seem less reactive to certain things.”

Of course, Verdino, like most people is treading on eggshells still given the hard-line taken by the FDA on anyone making claims about CBD oil.

It seems though, that the experiential evidence on the ground is overwhelming and whilst ‘official’ sources of controlled evidence are less abundant, surely it is becoming obvious that there is more to this CBD oil thing than meets the eye? Verdino goes on to say that:

He uses CBD for his own dog, a senior who gets jumpy in the evenings, and it seems to relax the animal.

“At night time when the lights are dimmed down, it’s dark out, they don’t see it well in the dark, and he gets a little spooked. And when I give him the CBD, he seems to just go to sleep.”

The question is, of course, how is it working. Verdino says, “So is it helping with the anxiety, or is it just making him drowsy? I don’t know, but it seems to help. So we have a symptom, and it helps with that symptom.”

Then a bit of advice:

“I recommend people use a pet-specific product just so that they know that the concentration is appropriate, that there’s nothing else in it to… because look, this is a fairly unregulated industry.”

Ah, there it is, that old chestnut again, the unregulated industry.

He is right thought it would seem. Along with the recent vaping scandal, it seems like most of the issues in the CBD industry are not born from the CBD itself, but from shonky products.

Anyway, in this video, Dr. Josh Sosnow, is another veterinarian who says that CBD oil is very useful in treating patients that have arthritis, patients who have nerve pain and it can be used in patients that have anxiety issues. He goes on to list a whole number of other conditions that he has found it useful in treating, then to give some more useful information

  3. Yes this is absolutely true CBD oil is most definitely beneficial for our pets health as well as our own, I know this because I friend of mine has a pet dog, named butch it’s Labrador which developed a lump on his neck, my friend took him to the vet who informed her that the lump was cancerous and there was no cure, as you can imagine, my friend was very distraught, she couldn’t bare the thought of losing her dog, she had heard about CBD oil and though she didn’t tell anyone, she secretly bought some CBD oil online, as soon as it arrived she started mixing it with butch’s food, well that was over two years ago and I’m pleased to say that butch is still very much alive and what’s more the lump on his neck is no longer there, thank you for sharing this post and keep up the good work.

  4. Wow, I didn’t know about the importance of using a pet specific cbd product. I just thought that if it is cbd then it should go for me or my vet so I feed him mine. I think I’d have a change of that now having read what you have here. I didn’t really know that. Cbd bio pet care looks really good and I won’t have to go through the stress of thinking of what kind of cbd to get thanks to you.
