Giving your pet tiger CBD oil might be a good idea if you are having guests over.

When it comes to their pets, many people are more afraid of doing them wrong than themselves. To me, this a great thing. So, when it comes to CBD oil, dishing it out to pets is like taking a big leap for many pet owners because it is still considered similar to getting your pet stoned. But giving your pet CBD oil is nothing like getting them stoned as long as you know the right kind of oils to give them. So what is the best CBD oil for Pets?

Many websites you visit will unashamedly start giving out a list of their top ten CBD oils for pets, ranking them in terms of how good they are. I should tell you that the majority of these people, at this point in the growth of CBD oil have no idea what they are talking about.

Often, these top ten lists are built purely from a commercial perspective.

Of course, everyone has the right to their commercial enterprises and yes, we will recommend a product from our partner CBD Biocare. But, that does not mean that our product is the greatest product out there on the market or that we could rank it against other products since we are not pets so we can’t possibly understand which oil they prefer.

Having said that, there are several criteria that you can follow to ensure that you are getting a good oil for your furry friends. Then, whether you choose to use CBD Biocare or take the criteria out to find a similar product, both are legitimate responses.

Remember, just because a CBD oil says ‘pet’ on it, doesn’t always make it different from ‘human’ CBD oil.

From Weedmaps.com:

Whether it’s for dogs or humans, there are countless CBD oil brands available. Dog owners who use CBD oil themselves and are considering trying it out for their dog may wonder if there is a difference between pet CBD oil and human CBD oil. The short answer is no.

“There should be no difference in ‘pet-quality’ oils,” said holistic veterinarian Judy Morgan. “However, oils cannot be labeled for humans and pets to use, as FDA does not allow that. Many human oils are pretty concentrated, so dosing becomes an issue for small pets.”

What if you want to utilize the same CBD oil as your faithful companion? Can humans take pet CBD oil without experiencing any adverse side effects? Morgan explained that if the CBD oil manufacturer is a good one, it will make oils that are human-grade – meaning this will be good enough for both you and your pet.

Yes, dogs can use human CBD oil,” she said. “Humans could take pet CBD oil if it is human grade and not adulterated in any way.”

So, the main issue here seems to be one of strength. A good quality oil should not be any different when it comes to compounds whether you give it to your dog or yourself. Not like the horrendous pet food industry for example where we are happy to feed our pets all kinds of disgusting meat by-products that we would never touch ourselves.

The Importance of Third-Party Testing

The last thing you would want was to give your loved one oil that was advertised as one thing but was completely different.

Despite hemp’s legalization, CBD oil is currently in a state of regulatory flux in the U.S. With this lack of current regulation of CBD oil, there’s a need for consumers to keep themselves informed of CBD oil products and manufacturers they are considering. In fact, certain studies show that many of the products on the market are falsely labeled. In one November 2017 study, researchers tested 84 CBD products from 31 companies and found that only 30.95% were accurately labeled with the correct amount of CBD.

One way to make sure a CBD oil’s manufacturer is reputable is by purchasing a product that includes a certificate of analysis from a third-party testing lab. You can also look for a product that was manufactured in a Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP)-compliant facility, which must follow certain Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards to qualify.

Third-Party testing costs money and to get a facility that is FDA approved is an even more tricky and costly process.

But, it seems that in these wildly unregulated times, they are the only measures we have to ensure that we are getting what we pay for. So 30.95% of CBD products are inaccurately labeled they reckon. We can see then, that such measures are really necessary and should be compulsory across the board.

Why choose organic?

Hemp is often used as a cleanup crop

Hemp is often used as a clean-up crop. This is because it has a profound ability to remove pesticides, fertilizers and other toxins from the ground. This is a beautiful quality of hemp, it can repair chemical ravaged fields. But, of course, that means that if it is grown in any way that is not strictly organic, whatever compounds are in the ground will be in the plant.

The last thing you want is to feed your pet a good dose of Monsanto’s finest. So for their sake, buy organic oil.

What about strength?

Morgan said that while CBD oil is generally safe, there is a possibility that an exceedingly high dose could cause side effects in smaller dogs.

“Although I have had people accidentally use 10 times the recommended dose with no side effects,” Morgan said, “the side effects would be more magnified in very small dogs, especially if using a very concentrated oil.”

She said she hasn’t seen many side effects of CBD oil use in dogs.

“Maybe occasional loose stool with high doses,” she said. “CBD does use an enzyme system in the liver, so dogs with impaired liver function may need lower dosing.”

Anyway, the major message here seems to be that lower doses are better with your animals, at least to begin with. But that isn’t all down to the strength of the oil that you buy, its also down to the amount of that oil that you give them. Allthebestpetcare.com suggests:

Determining the ideal dose may require experimentation

Whether you’re using hemp CBD oil for anxiety or pain relief, the right dose can vary quite a bit from one situation to the next. Some animals do not have as many receptors as others and you may need to experiment to find the right amount and how often. Start with a dose on the low end of the range and expect to see results in 30 – 60 minutes. If there is no change after an hour, increase the dosage. Occasionally improvements will take more than one treatment.

Basic dosing rule for cats and dogs: 1-5 mg CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight.

To control pain, give every 8 hours or as needed. For other uses, or to break unwanted behavior patterns, give once or twice a day. Keep in mind that there is no known toxicity associated with CBD.

To understand dropper measurements, check out this article on CBD dosages. They say that the basic measurement is 1-5mg of CBD per 10lbs (5kg) of body weight. That’s a pretty big swing in mg. But, I suppose it’s a matter of starting at the lower end and continuing until you hit the satisfactory level for whatever your pet’s condition is. For a 500mg bottle of CBD, one single drop will be 2.5mg.

Of course, in some cases, there are pet treats and snacks with an advertised amount of CBD. Some of these might be good, some might be very far from good. So, unless you have a very reputable source, you might want to avoid playing roulette with these highly processed products and instead stick to very clean oil.

THC Levels

There are mixed opinions on the effects of THC on animals. I have known animals who are regular passive smokers due to their owners. Whilst the animals seemed to enjoy it, I always had a bit of a problem with it. Some say that animals have very different levels of cannabinoids to humans and so the effects can be drastically different. Some even go as far as being dramatic enough to say that it can be lethal. To be frank, you will find this in a few mainstream resources and as far as I can see, none of them cites any actual examples.

Regardless of the dangers of THC in pets possibly being over-hyped, you don’t need to give your animal THC. If you can, choose an oil with no THC or trace amounts at the most.
